We think that Rachel Rostad's poem is the best out of the 5 poems. We chose that because Rachel had emphasized her voice and body gesture. For example, she showed how she was feeling. (emotions) If we compared Rachel Rostad's poem to the "And I Still Rise"poem, Rachel put more expression and felt more serious. She also had emotions that were really clear. Therefore, we chose Rachel Rostad's poem as the best poem out of the other five poems.

  3. I believe that Rachel Rostad's poem entitled "Names" is the best because she used a lot of emotion in her voice so we knew exactly how she felt. She also controlled her speed, tone, and noise level of her voice very nicely. They're are many things that make a good poetry reading. You should have a lot of emotion and feelings in your poem so the audience stays engaged and knows how you feel. The tone and speed of your voice will also matter. Maintaining a Loud and clear voice while presenting your poem is also very important so the audience hears you. Rachel Rostad had all these things in her poem, which made me like her poem the best.

  5. We think that "Names" was the best poem out of all of them because Rachel was using a lot of emotion and was speaking loud and clear. She's showing a lot of enthusiasm by showing that the poem actually means something to her. She also included some humour to keep the audience engaged.

  6. I believe that Rachel Rostad clearly and effectively utilised poetry reading techniques to engage the targeted audience.
Poetry techniques include: tone of voice, volume, articulation, pacing and phrasing.
By using these techniques/criteria along with descriptive language, it was clear that she had an excellent poetry reading.

The "Running poem" was also was excellent. S.S.S utilised tone of voice, volume and body gestures to effectively describe the situation given (a race). He utilised body gestures and descriptive language to make it easier for the audience to understand the poem and to make it easier to visualize the poem. He also used similies to make his poem more descriptive.

These two authors utilised these techniques to further enhance their poetry readings.

  7. Personally, i would say the poem that most effectively had an impression on me was Rachel Rostads poem titled "names". This was because she had used a variety of techniques to engage the audience. Articulation, volume, tone, and proper pacing were a couple of techniques she had included to create an engaging poem, and an entertaining performance. She had emphasized on certain words making it clear of her intentions, and emotions. Her timing was impeccable, and she was using speed to her advantage as it suited that specific poem. She also used a couple of comparisons and you could identify her opinion on the matter. At the end of the poem her heart was racing, and her voice was shaking, and she had said the last few words as if she had given up on the matter. She also maintained a loud, clear voice throughout the presentation which is an important factor that contributes a lot in what makes good poetry reading. She had used descriptive language to allow the audience to experience all her feeling along with her. She even had a motive, which i would say is to raise awareness about the importance of names, and how they are prayer and everything our parents expect us to be. This poem had left the biggest impression on me, and had been an excellent example of a great poet reciting a impact full poem.

Also the "running poem" stood out to me. What made this performance so unique where the multiple body movements S.S.S had consistently done throughout his performance. It was clear he intended for the audience to visualize him as the racer. He used descriptive language and once again maintained a reasonable volume. I think what makes a good poetry reading above all are the techniques you use, and how you use them.

Overall I think all the poets had done excellent poetry reading, and I learned multiple techniques from this lesson.
